The Fleet Installation / inspection for SCALAR EVO Pulse, available in the Workshop module, is an installation and verification tool designed to assist field engineers and customer service partners in seamless installation, deployment, configuration, and verification of EVO Pulse units.
Only authorized users who are assigned the Technician role can access the Workshop module integrated with the SCALAR platform.
Capabilities
- Installation verification overview: Provides a comprehensive overview of health statuses including Battery, GPS, TBS (Trailer Brake System), and TPMS (Tire Pressure Monitoring System).
- Real-time monitoring for quick identification of any issues during the installation process.
- TPMS sensor configuration: Allows seamless configuration and reconfiguration of TPMS sensors for trailers with up to 6 axels with single or twin tire combination.
- Report generation: Generates a detailed report of the installation process, including information on each configured parameter and highlights any deviations or issues encountered during installation. Sends the installation report to a defined group of recipients.
Install, configure, and verify the SCALAR EVO Pulse unit #
This section describes the installation, configuration, and verification of the SCALAR EVO Pulse unit using Workshop.
- In the Workshop module, the Welcome to workshop page is displayed.
- Click the Unit inspection and more tile. The Connect to communication unit page is displayed.
- Do one of the following:
- Scan the QR code displayed on your communication unit for about 3 seconds and at a distance of at least 15 cm.
- Android 11 and later versions
- iOS 17.4.1 and later versions
- Click Enter serial number manually. The Unit serial number dialog is displayed.
- Enter the serial number (IMEI) of the communication unit, and then click Continue. For example, if the serial number mentioned on the unit is ABC-123456789123456, the unit serial number will be numeric, which is 123456789123456.
The QR code reader application is not required for scanning the QR.
However, the web app must be assigned appropriate permission to access the hand-held device camera. The Flashlight functionality will be supported for the following:
OR
The serial number is displayed on the device label.
The Preparing unit for inspection dialog is displayed.
After the unit is prepared for inspection, the SCALAR EVO Pulse / Cast page is displayed.
In the Inspect unit installation section, you can perform a step-by-step check to verify whether the communication unit is installed correctly and subsequently generate a report.
In the Health status section, you can view the device health as described in the View device health status section.
The overall health status is displayed on each tile.
Inspect unit installation #
A technician can proceed with Inspect unit installation only if the unit or the device is connected to an external power source.
Perform a step-by-step check to verify whether the communication unit is installed correctly and generate a report.
Verify the asset details #
- Trailer identification: License plate, Vehicle Identification Number (VIN), Unit installation code
- Trailer details: Trailer Braking System (TBS) brand, Trailer type, Trailer manufacturer
- Axles and tires: Tire type, Axle brand, Axle model, Tire brand, Tire model
At least one of the fields must be updated in this section to proceed with further steps.
Battery information #
- Battery state
- Unit battery voltage
Click Next to continue.
GPS information #
- Last status received on GPS connectivity
- GPS status: Good / Poor / No Coverage
- Satellites: Number of satellites covering the trailer.
A minimum of five satellites are required for a good GPS position.
Click Next to continue.
TBS information #
- Last received valid status
- Axle load
- Mileage / Odometer
- Speed
- TBS brand / model
Click Next to continue.
TPMS information #
Verify and configure the following:
- Last received valid status
- TPMS source: Select how the tire pressure and temperature data is obtained: RF (radio frequency, which is wireless) or EBS (wired)
When the TPMS source is TBS, a technician can only view the TPMS information.
When the TPMS source is RF, they can configure the TPMS sensors.
- TPMS source: Indicates the sources from which to obtain the tire pressure and temperature values. In case of SCALAR EVOPulse, the TPMS source is RF.
- Select the TPMS sensor model from the list.
- In the Tire configuration section, do the following:
- From the Trailer type list, select the trailer type
- From the Number of axles list, select the number of axles connected between one and six
- Set the tire type: single or twin tires
- Set the pressure and verify temperature: Select each tire in the diagram to configure it.
The TPMS tires color code represents the following:- Red – Extremely High / Low pressure
- Yellow – High / Low pressure
- Green – Normal Pressure
- Map the RF sensors: In the Tire configuration section, click the required tire. The Sensor mapping dialog is displayed.
- Trigger the sensor through TPMS device. Use the TPMS manager (300 200 001 0) to stimulate the sensor to make it visible and/or read the sensor ID.
- Select the correct sensors in range.
- Enter the sensor ID manually.
- Modify the reference pressure: Select the required tire to set the reference pressure for configured sensors.
- Click the particular wheel. The TPMS sensor details dialog is displayed.
- Click Edit (
) next to Reference pressure to enter the reference pressure. The Reference pressure dialog is displayed.
- In the Edit reference pressure box, enter the reference tire pressure value, and then click Save. You can click the minus or plus icons to adjust the value. The updated value is reflected in the TPMS sensor details dialog. Click Close to proceed to the next step.
When the TPMS source is RF, you can configure the TPMS sensors.
The RF sensors can be mapped to the tire in the following ways:
The TPMS Manager is not enabled in SCALAR Workshop currently. This will
be enabled in the future.
Select the Update the same reference pressure for all TPMS sensors installed on this asset checkbox to set the same reference pressure for all the TPMS sensors.
Click Next to continue.
After the Regulatory Officer defines the minimum, maximum, and reference tire pressure in the Asset module, you can set the reference pressure in the Workshop module for each tire of a trailer, which is validated against the tire pressure value range defined.
Send installation report #
Send a report through email to confirm the correct installation. Enter the required parameters:
- Email address
- Comments
- Installer
- Workshop
- Add photos
Click Send and finish to complete the process.
You can send the report to multiple email addresses (maximum 10 email addresses are allowed.)
The installer’s email address is not editable. You can refer to it to identify the person who has completed the unit installation.
A confirmation email is sent to both customer and technician summarizing the device health status.
