The Software Update Management System (SUMS) Software as a Service platform has been developed to offer a comprehensive solution to the vehicle manufacturers or OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) from the automotive industry to comply with UN regulation number 156. It provides a secure and efficient way to manage software updates throughout the lifetime of the vehicle. This topic describes how an OEM can start using the SUMS SaaS platform.
Help Conventions #
The following table provides a description of the conventions used throughout the SUMS online help.

Account Activation #
If you are a first-time user, you must create and activate your account to start using the platform.
- Click the Create account link included in the Welcome email.
- On the Sign In page, enter your username and password, and then click Continue. The account is created, and a confirmation message is displayed.
NOTE:
The account is then activated, and the account status changes to Active.
- Click the Return to sign in link. The SUMS platform Sign in page is displayed.
- You must complete the activation process within time: the link is valid only for 72 hours.
- It is recommended to browse through the terms and conditions: T&C for digital connected services and T&C for the processing of personal data.
- As a first-time user, you can update your profile information, such as upload your profile photograph, change the password, and modify notification settings.
Sign In #
The SUMS platform is a SaaS solution that you can access through your browser. Currently, the app can be accessed from the Edge browser.
- To go to the SUMS Sign in page, in the address bar of a browser, enter the URL address provided. The Sign in page is displayed.
- In the Email and Password boxes, enter your sign-in credentials, and then click Sign in. The Vehicles Types page is displayed.
Reset Password #
You can reset the password if you cannot recall it or if you are required to reset it for security reasons.
- On the Sign in page, click the Forgot password link. The Forgot password dialog is displayed.
- Enter the email address at which the link to reset the password will be sent, and then click Reset password. A confirmation message is displayed and the link for password reset is sent to the specified email address.
- From your email account, open the reset password email, and then click Reset password. The Reset password dialog opens in a new browser tab.
NOTE:
The link to reset the password is valid only for 72 hours.
- Enter a new password in the New password and Confirm new password boxes, and then click Save password. The new password is set for your user account.
Sign out #
- From the top-right corner, click ZF account . The manage your account menu is displayed.
- Click Sign out. You are signed out of the SCALAR platform.
Understand the User Interface – Navigation #
After you sign in to the SUMS app, the Vehicle types page is displayed. This section helps you become familiar with the user interface.

Switch Between Apps
- Use the app selector to switch to a different app: . The available apps depend on user permissions.
- Select the required app from the list. The selected app is launched in a new tab.
Common Functionalities #

Initial setup #
As a SUMS OEM Manager, you must enter information on the tabs in the Vehicle type creator group on the SUMS platform.
