In the SUMS (Software Update Management System) tool, the Vehicle Type and Vehicles modules are available in the SUMS Viewer section. The Vehicle Type module is important for the type approval process (homologation) to comply with R156 regulations.
In the Vehicles module, the data of all the vehicles manufactured by an organization, and added to the SUMS tool is available. An OEM Administrator can view the details of the vehicles and download JSON files for software package validation from this module.
INFORMATION: Homologation is the entire type approval process of obtaining approval from the government authorities for a vehicle type.
View Vehicle Types with Packages #
You can view the vehicle type information, such as vehicle type name, creation date, description, and software package details.
INFORMATION: The vehicle type name, variant, and version together constitute the vehicle type.
In the Software Update Management System module, from the left navigation pane > in the SUMS Viewer section, click Vehicle Type. The Vehicle Types with Packages page is displayed.
To sort the records in ascending or descending order, click Sort in the column headers.
Available columns

Vehicle Type | Name assigned according to the use case of the vehicle type, for example, if an OEM wants to manufacture a vehicle type for the commercial vehicle segment, there will be a naming convention defined by the organization. The vehicle type name will be assigned according to the defined convention. |

Description | Details of the vehicle type name, variant, and version of the vehicle type.
NOTE:
Vehicle type name, variant, version, and description information is filled in at the time of vehicle type creation. |

Filter Vehicle Type #
You can select specific vehicle types to customize the view on the Vehicle Types with Packages page.
- In the Software Update Management System module, from the left navigation pane > in the SUMS Viewers section, click Vehicle Type. The Vehicle Type with Packages page is displayed.
- Click Filters. The Filters pane is displayed.
- Select the required vehicle types from the Vehicle Types list. Results matching the selection criteria are displayed on the Vehicle Types with Packages page.
NOTE:
To revert to the default setting, click Reset all.
View Vehicle Type, Package, and RxSWIN Details #
You can view the vehicle type details, download the associated software package for validation, and view the regulations for a vehicle type. You can also view the associated systems, ECUs, and regulations for a specific vehicle type.
Vehicle Type Details #
The Vehicle type details tab provides an overview of the vehicle type created and the systems, ECUs, and regulations associated with it.
On the Vehicle Types with Packages page, select a vehicle type from the list. The Vehicle type details tab is displayed on the selected vehicle type information page.
The information in the Vehicle type details section can be edited from the Vehicle types module in the Vehicle type creator section until a software package is released.

View Associated Items #
You can view the systems, ECUs, and regulations associated with a vehicle type.
On a specific vehicle type information page, from the Vehicle type details tab > go to the Associated Items section and click View. The associated items detail page for the selected vehicle is displayed.
To directly go to a specific tab (Systems, Electronic control units, or Regulation), click the respective field in the Associate Items section on the Vehicle type details tab.
Packages #
On the Packages tab, you can download the JSON file for a vehicle type and details of all the software packages associated with that vehicle type.
The software package download function is available based on the persona.
- On the Vehicle Types with Packages page, select a vehicle type from the list. The selected vehicle type information page is displayed.
- Click the Packages tab. All the available software packages are displayed.
NOTE:
- Released: The software package version released after the validation and approval of the technical service.
- Ready for Release: The latest software package version validated by the OEM for homologation and available for the technical service to download for further validation for approval.
- Select the required software package from the list. The selected software package information page is displayed.
NOTE:The ECU information can be updated from the Assemble packages module. For more information, see how to update the ECU information.

Download a Package #
You can download the software packages from the Packages tab.
- On the Packages tab, select a software package. The selected software package information page is displayed.
- Click Download. The Download Package dialog is displayed.
- To confirm, click Download. The software package is downloaded to the default downloads folder.
NOTE:
The download option is available for both the released and ready for release software packages.
RxSWIN #
On the RXSWIN tab, you can view all the regulations for a vehicle type, the RxSWIN identifiers associated, and the ECUs they impact.
INFORMATION:
- RxSWIN (Rx software identification number) is a unique identifier defined by the manufacturer that represents information about the regulations associated with the ECUs of a vehicle type.
- In an RxSWIN unique identifier, ‘R’ denotes regulation, ‘x’ denotes the regulation number, and ‘SWIN’ denotes the software identification version, for example, R 156-001.
- On the Vehicle Types with Packages page, select a vehicle type from the list. The selected vehicle type information page is displayed.
- Click the RXSWIN tab. The regulations applicable to the selected vehicle type are displayed.
NOTE:A single regulation, for example, UN R156, can be associated with multiple RxSWIN identifiers. These identifiers can impact multiple ECUs in a vehicle type.
- Select a regulation from the Regulations and RxSWINs section. The selected regulation information page is displayed.
- In the RxSWINs section, select an RxSWIN identifier. The tabs for the impacted ECUs are displayed on the specific RxSWIN identifier information page.

Each ECU impacted by the RxSWIN identifier will be represented as a separate tab on the unique identifier page. All the ECU tabs have the same information sections as in the table above. For more information, see the description of the available columns on ECU tabs.
INFORMATION: In the Vehicles module, on a specific vehicle information page, the RXSWIN field present in the Details section provides information about the unique identifier associated with the vehicle, for example, R100001.
Search a Vehicle Type #
To search for a specific vehicle type, on the Vehicle Types with Packages page, enter a vehicle type name in the search box.
View Vehicles #
On the Vehicles page, you can view the data associated with a vehicle, such as the VIN (Integrity Validation Number), vehicle type, and software package details.
In the Software Update Management System module, from the left navigation pane > in the SUMS Viewers section, click Vehicles. The list of all the vehicles added is displayed on the Vehicles page.
- Each vehicle has a unique VIN. VINs for all the vehicles added in the SUMS tool are displayed on the Vehicles page.
- To sort the records in ascending or descending order, click Sort in the column headers.

The VIN is auto-generated in the ECU after every software version update. The VIN generated must be valid in association with the latest ECU available. |

Latest Package | The latest software package available for download for a vehicle.

Ideally, the installed and latest packages should be the same. If the data in both columns is different, it implies that the latest available software package update is to be installed on the vehicle. |

If the latest available package is installed, the Update available column status is Yes, else No. |
Filter Vehicles #
You can select specific vehicle types to customize the view on the Vehicles page.
- In the Software Update Management System module, from the left navigation pane > in the SUMS Viewers section, click Vehicles. The Vehicles page is displayed.
- Click Filters. The Filters pane is displayed.
- Select the required vehicle types from the Vehicle Types list. Results matching the selection criteria are displayed on the Vehicles page.

View Vehicle Details #
You can view the details of a vehicle, such as the associated vehicle type, IVD generated, SaaS versions for packages and parameters, and creation date.
- In the Software Update Management System module, from the left navigation pane > in the SUMS Viewers section, click Vehicles. The Vehicles page is displayed.
- Select a vehicle from the list. The selected vehicle information page is displayed.
NOTE:The software package status is present at the top, next to the vehicle name. If a new software update is available, the status is update available. If the latest software package is installed on the vehicle, the status is Updated.

View Associated Vehicle Type Details #
You can view details for the associated vehicle type and software packages.
- On the Vehicles page, select a vehicle from the list. The vehicle information page is displayed.
- In the Associated Vehicle Type section, click View Vehicle Type Details. The Vehicle type details tab is displayed on the selected vehicle information page. For more information, see the vehicle type details topic.
- To view the software package details, click the Packages tab. All the available software packages are displayed.
TIP:You can download a software package that is ready for release or is already released. For more information, see how to download a software package.
Download a JSON File #
The JSON file is downloaded and referred by the auditors or Technical service to verify the information for a vehicle manufactured.
- On the Vehicles page, select a vehicle from the list. The selected vehicle information page is displayed.
- Click Download as JSON. The JSON file is downloaded to the default downloads folder
Information: A JSON file for the same package can be downloaded from the Software packages module.
Search a VIN #
To search for a specific VIN, on the Vehicles page, enter a VIN in the search box. The vehicle bearing the specified VIN is displayed.
