In the SUMS (Software Update Management System) tool, the Vehicle module is available in the
Vehicle management section. It is part of the EOL (End of Line) process. After the vehicles are
manufactured by the OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer), the EOL technician adds the
vehicles to the SUMS tool by associating the vehicles with the vehicle type, software package,
and the relevant VIN data. The EOL technician accomplishes this by adding JSON files to the
SUMS tool generated at the time of EOL process.
INFORMATION:
- The EOL technician updates the package for a vehicle offline (outside the SUMS tool), and then updates the latest package using the SUMS tool.
- After a vehicle is manufactured by the OEM, the EOL technician uses the diagnostic tools to generate a JSON file for that vehicle. These JSON files are uploaded at the time of adding a vehicle to the SUMS tool.
- For each vehicle manufactured, a separate JSON file is generated.
- A JSON file contains information about the vehicle type, VIN (Vehicle Identification Number), and the IVD (Integrity Validation Data) generated for the vehicle.
Add a Vehicle #
The vehicles manufactured by the OEM must be added to the SUMS tool to track the process in compliance with R156 regulations.
All the vehicles added have unique VINs. The list of these VINs is available on the Vehicles page in the Viewer section.
- In the Software Update Management System module, from the left navigation pane > in the Vehicle management section, click Vehicle. The Vehicle page is displayed.
- Click Add vehicle. The Add vehicle page is displayed.
- In the Vehicle type field, select a vehicle type from the list, and then in the Package field, select a package available for the selected vehicle type from the list.
NOTE:
- The Select package field is disabled for selection. You must select a vehicle type first to select a package.
- Only the packages that are associated with the selected vehicle type are displayed in the package list.
- In the Upload File section, click Upload JSON. The File Explorer opens.
- Select the required JSON files from the folder, and then click Open. The selected files are uploaded.
NOTE:
- You can upload a maximum of 50 JSON files together in the Upload File section.
- To delete an uploaded JSON file, click Delete .
- All the fields marked * are mandatory.
- Click Save. The Save dialog is displayed.
- To confirm, click Yes. The vehicle is added to the Vehicle list.
NOTE:
- The system validates the JSON files only after you click Save on the Add vehicle page. After a JSON is added, if there are any errors, the Logs dialog is displayed with the error details.
- If you click Cancel, there is no option to download the logs again.
INFORMATION: Two important validations relate to VIN and IVDs:
–VIN validation: If there is another vehicle in the database with the same VIN, the system will display a duplicate VIN error message.
–IVD validation: If the IVD generated by the ECU of a vehicle does not match the IVD number in the version control after the version update, the system will throw an IVD mismatch error.
