Welcome to the SUMS (Software Update Management System) platform guide! You can find detailed documentation for these modules: vehicle type management, software package management, software download and distribution, and vehicle management.
The SUMS Software as a Service (SaaS) platform has been developed to offer a comprehensive solution to the vehicle manufacturers or OEMs (Original Equipment Manufacturers) from the automotive industry to comply with UN regulation number 156.
SUMS Platform Overview #
The SUMS platform enables you to effectively manage software updates for End-of-Line (EOL) production and for workshops or service centers after a vehicle is sold and on the road.
The automotive industry is a safety-critical domain and is a highly regulatory-driven industry. Therefore, various regulations are to be complied with. In view of this, the vehicle type regulation process is introduced in accordance with R156 (Software Update Management System: SUMS). The SUMS SaaS solution addresses the documentation requirements of R156 and enables authorities to audit records and verify compliance with regulations periodically.
From the SUMS platform, you can perform the following functions:
- Create, view, and manage vehicle types
- Create, view, and manage systems and ECUs
- Create and assemble software packages, verify and validate them, and finally release software packages
- Download the approved software package to create new vehicles, each bearing a unique VIN (Vehicle Identification Number)
- View all the vehicle types and vehicles from the SUMS Viewer—this app can also be accessed by the regulatory authorities during the homologation stage
- After the vehicles are manufactured by the OEM, add, or update the vehicle details into the SUMS app
Benefits of Using SUMS Platform #
- Offers multi-lingual support: you can launch the app in your preferred language.
- Enables implementation and documentation of the vehicle type model.
- Facilitates access to the vehicle databases to the type approval regulatory authority (Technical Service) for audits.
- Eases operations in terms of creating and managing vehicles; creating, assembling, and managing software packages; downloading and distributing the software packages; managing vehicle types and vehicle data; and viewing all the vehicle-related information.
