Using the SCALAR Cargo app, a driver can view and execute legs assigned to them within a scheduled trip. During execution, feedback is obtained from drivers in a structured manner.
The following sections describe the trip execution process using the Cargo app:
For more information, see Trips overview.
Driver feedback using workflows #
While performing actions, the driver fills in specific questions in the SCALAR Cargo app based on the configured workflow. This information is then available both in the Trips module and the Track and Trace module for the dispatcher (cf. View activities).
- In the Cargo app, the leg details are displayed in the Schedule module.
- The asset is linked to the driver after the tacho card is inserted in the tachograph or after manually selecting the asset in the Cargo app.
- The driver must complete a leg before proceeding to the next leg. Within a leg, the sequence of work needs to be followed.
Context: The Schedule tab in the Cargo app is linked with the Trips page in the SCALAR app. When a driver starts a scheduled action, the corresponding activity is started, which can be seen in the Track and Trace module. Therefore, the feedback entered by the driver in the workflow is not only visible in the Trips module, but also in the Track and Trace module.
- Sign in to the SCALAR Cargo app on your smartphone device.
- Tap Schedule (
) at the bottom. The Schedule screen is displayed.
- When the driver is logged in and not linked to an asset: All legs scheduled for the connected driver are displayed in the Legs section.
- When the driver is logged in and linked to an asset (by manually selecting an asset or by inserting the tacho driver card): All legs scheduled for the connected driver and all legs scheduled for the selected asset are displayed in the Legs section. In this case, the legs list contains two sections: “Ready to start” and “x legs next”.
The driver can start with any of the “Ready to start” legs. The next leg can only be started when the correct asset is selected. - The planned start date and time are mentioned, along with the number of actions within that leg.
- “In progress” indicates that the leg has been started by the driver and the driver must finish this leg before starting another one.
- Click Show all to view all the assigned tasks. Click Hide all to hide the details.
- In the Legs section, tap a leg from the list of legs. The Leg details screen is displayed.
- Info button: Use the Info button
at every level (leg, mission, action, or order) to display any additional comments or quick action links (URL, telephone number, or 3rd party apps). These specific links will automatically launch the corresponding app when clicked (for example, clicking the URL will launch the default web browser).
- Mission details: On the Leg details screen, click the mission, to view the details of the mission. The status of the missions and the actions are displayed on this screen.
- Action details: On the Mission details screen, click the action, to view the details of the action.
- Order details: On the Action details screen, click the order, to view the order details.
- Load carrier details: On the Order details screen, click the load carrier, to view the load carrier details.
- In the Leg details screen, tap Start. A confirmation message to start the leg is displayed.
- To confirm, tap Start. The Start action button becomes visible in the mission details.
- Tap Start to start the action of the first leg. A confirmation message is displayed.
- To proceed, tap Start. The questions defined in the workflow are listed on successive screens. Go through the workflow and provide feedback for all the questions.
- Questions can be specific to a customer and may vary from customer to customer. A set of questions can be customized for each customer in the workflow.
- If you go back to the screen where you started the workflow, a message is displayed. Click Resume to resume the workflow.
- Tap Confirm to complete the action. Action 1 of the first mission is now completed.
- An action is automatically closed after the ‘Finish planning’ workflow entry is executed. Hence, a ‘Finish planning’ workflow entry must be included for a planned action.
- If only one action is available for that mission, the mission is marked as Finished.
- Tap Start to start action 2 of the first leg and then tap Start to initiate the next action.
- Tap Confirm to finish the action. Action 2 of the first leg is now finished.
- Tap Finish. A confirmation message is displayed.
- Tap Finish. The first leg is completed and the next leg, if available, can now be started.
The Leg details screen displays the missions, and each mission screen displays the actions to be performed. The missions are places the driver still needs to visit to perform these actions. A mission can have multiple actions.
In this example, ‘Load the soft drinks and check the status’ is the first mission, while ‘Unload the soft drinks and check the status’ is the next mission. The planned date and time are mentioned. The tags ‘Load’ and ‘Unload’ denote actions.
Enable the Show info slider to preview the comments added for the mission.
In this example, the leg “Coca-cola company to dépot” is selected.
Levels of the trip:
The driver receives details of the leg level and the details of all the levels below the leg. The details of the legs, missions, and actions are displayed in the cards on the screen. The orders and load carrier details are listed on the screen.
For more conceptual information, see Trips.
An action can be started from the Leg details screen, or the Mission details screen, or the Action details screen.
Navigate option: In case GPS coordinates (location) are included with a scheduled mission, a Navigate button will be available for the driver. This allows the driver to navigate to the location where the action needs to be performed.
From the mission or leg details, click Navigate to launch the default navigation app (For example, Google Maps).

When a driver starts a planned action that contains related activities, the name of the related activity is displayed. The activity configured in the workflow that can be started is visible. On starting the activity, relevant questions are displayed.
The planned action remains in the ‘In progress’ state and the Start button is enabled until the ‘Finish planning’ workflow entry is encountered in the workflow sequence.
Tap Next to move to the next question. This is a representative image of the questions visible on the app.
After answering all the questions, the inputs are summarized on the next screen. This is a representative image of the summarized answers visible on the app.
The relevant information, such as start and end time, driver feedback, among others is displayed on the Trips overview page. You can expand the trip name to view details on the Trip details pane.
After answering all the questions, the inputs for the selected action are summarized on the next overview screen. This is a representative image of the summarized answers visible on the app.
After finishing all the legs, a Nothing scheduled message is displayed on the Schedule screen.
After the workflow is completed, the activity continues until another activity is registered.
Register activities #
A driver can start activities as soon as an activity definition profile is assigned to the linked asset (cf. Activities).
When a vehicle is detected to be in standstill mode, activities, such as loading, unloading, and refueling can be selected by the driver in the SCALAR Cargo app. The real-time and historical data can be viewed by the dispatcher in the SCALAR web app.
During standstill mode, activity selection is restricted based on the tachograph status.
For more information, see Register activities.
